Longwood Gardens

Truly magical! Truly! I’ve seen many gardens, but this one takes the cake! Longwood Gardens, located in Kennett Square, PA, screams sophistication in its design, layout, and upkeep. But no matter how proper, there’s nothing like gorgeous flowers to put a person at ease. It’s about a three-hour drive away from Leesburg, and I suggest you take the country route (not through D.C. and Baltimore). So scenic and a lot of charm on those roads! Over the course of my visit, I took more than 100 photos, and choosing which to post is going to be a challenge. Honestly, every angle, sight, flower is an “Ahhhh” moment.

Developed by the wealthy du Ponts in the early 1900s, Longwood wasn’t just acres of lovely flowers, but a hot spot for hosting dinner and garden parties for the big names of the times. Today it takes hundreds of hired staff and volunteers to keep the place in tip-top shape. We spoke with an older husband-wife couple who volunteer there who had smiles while pruning plants. I asked if it was a fabulous place to work, and they happily agreed. They also added that there are hundreds on the wait-list just to volunteer.

Now I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves!

An $18 ticket price doesn’t begin to cover the wonders in this place! I can’t wait to return!

On the road again,

Ms. Thrifty
