When did going to a restaurant just for dessert go out of style? Gather the girlfriends. It’s time to bring back that long-lost tradition. I’ve found a piece of cake that is big enough for several people, decadant enough for the most-discerning chocolate lover, and is only $7. It’s Maggiano’s Chocolate Zuccatto cake.
The cake is a piece of art. Several layers of chocolate cake and chocolate mousse topped with a thick layer of chocolate ganache like a dome. The tallest point of this slice is inches tall. Inches! It regally sits on a lake of caramel and chocolate sauces with a dollop of homemade whipped cream on the side. When our delightful server Jennifer brought it to us, we all marveled at the enormous portion. HUGE! Jennifer mentioned that Maggiano’s employs very dedicated bakers who arrive around 3 A.M. to begin preparing fresh desserts each morning. She continued that this specific chocolate cake takes hours due to its many layers, and that the final product is one gigantic, rounded ganache dome ready for the cutting.
Paired with a cup of coffee, this makes the perfect afternoon snack (or splurge)! We took over half of it home, and after further study of it this afternoon/stuffing my face with spoonfuls of it, I can whole-heartedly confirm that it hits the spot for this chocolate lover. So make your reservation on opentable.com and tell them Ms. Thrifty sent you. With impeccable service, first-class atmosphere, and delicious food, you will not be disappointed!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to finish the rest of it before my husband wakes up from a nap.
On the road again,
